The US CENSUS's (1790-1930) are very rich as a research tool. So of the data, particularly the spelling of names, may be skewed, but generally is good source to trace backwards and forward movements of families within an area, or between states. In addition to the Census list, there are SLAVE SCHEDULES listing owners for 1850 and 1860.
AGRICULTURAL SCHEDULES and MORTALITY SCHEDULES for 1850, 1860, and 1870 provide a view into the past of how those ancestors lived, raised families and made their living, and learning of the diseases of death and injuries of their day.

Letters from the past are also great as they are the recollections of older family members. Fortunately, I saved all my early correspondence with older family members, who have long passed away to their reward. Many of those letters have helped establish a base from which to work. I have preserved them in binders for reference.

Another resource I use is the collective interest and quarterly magazines of local Genealogical Societies. I am a member of the following Genealogy Societies. They have good sources for those researching families in the areas of the Carolinas where early pioneers and settlers established their early homes. Local libraries are also a great resource.

Randolph County Genealogical Society

Although several other family researchers have provided me CD's of their data by CD, I have deliberately not merged the data, but "gleaned" the basics that relate to my families. Also I am very particular that I have a resource for data for which others can return to the source and get the same facts.

Another resourcse that I have found to be helpful, on the Internet are Ancestry.com  and  Footnote.com . Footnote.com offers many different original documents from America's history such as:

CONFEDERATE CITIZEN FILES

In Footnote.com I found these very interesting collection of papers I would not have known about, but have opened a view into a point in time, about commerce and prices at the time.  Titled by category , they contained documents of commerce of the ordinary citizen in time of war. So far I have viewed SILER, CAGLE, and PHILLIPS's transactions with the Cofederate government.

NOTICE: To maintain the integrity of my website, I must offer that I depend on the source to be as accurate as possible. This includes submissions of data by others, to be included on this site to the dispersion of data for furthering the research of these families. We depend on others in some cases as the research broadens. Errors are sometimes made, inadvertently. If you suspect an error has been made on an entry, please advise. I, in turn will not knowing "publish" data that has not been proven as fact. If it is a theory, I will so note...rwp
